Reunion 2008

Last year's QE(K)A reunion was held at King’s, Strand campus on Saturday 4th October.  As well as enjoying each other's company, we were privileged to welcome Professor Robert (Bob) Price as our guest who spoke eloquently without projected “slides” when the IT equipment would not work.  We took numerous photos to remember the day with, and you will find some of them in ENVOY and on the Reunion 2008 pages.

Reunion 2009

I am now writing to invite you to the next Reunion planned for October 3rd in the River Room and nearby lecture theatre on the first floor of the main building of Strand campus.  Our guest speaker will be Professor Clive Wilkinson who was a member of the physics department at QEC and still continues his research studies after several years at the Institut Laue-Langevin, Grenoble where (amongst a number of surprising interests) he was well-known for his crystallography work. His talk is intriguingly entitled “Cricket balls, neutrons and other projectiles”. Although an avid cricket follower, we don’t think his talk will have anything to do with The Ashes but should interest people from a wide range of disciplines.

We cannot remember the last time a Physics or Maths ex-member of staff consented to be our guest speaker and we hope that this rare-opportunity will be well-attended.  If you are feeling shy, don't worry - we have name badges to help the memory cells and you'll find that there are usually people that you knew by sight, if not by name, from your time at college. The characteristic bonhomie of the old QEC is very welcoming even if you come on your own, but if you can co-ordinate with some of your old friends to make up a party so much the better.  We are also keen to invite those who graduated 20, 25, 30, 40 and 50 years ago to meet up with old classmates at this and future reunions - if you wish to use our web pages to announce a class gathering, please contact our webmaster.

Envoy 2009

We extend our thanks, once again, to Lyn Embling for editing and producing Envoy over the past few years and to the numerous contributors.  Envoy 2009 is available for download from the Envoy pages of the website.

We would still appreciate any news, information, articles, photos etc., about yourselves or colleagues. Please write or e-mail to Lyn Embling with any reminiscences, anecdotes or general interest articles for inclusion in Envoy 2010. Alternatively send them to Gary Thomas for inclusion in our website.

Committee

QE(K)A is run informally with the assistance of the members of the Committee.  They support the Committee meetings that we hold twice yearly and help keep the wheels turning in between times.   Please feel free to contact any of us to make your points of view known at our meetings.  Main contact details are on our web site and on the back cover of Envoy. Please contact one of the Committee if you are interested in contributing to the Association in any way or would like to join the Committee.

Website

Gary Thomas has continued to run our web site www.qeca.org.uk which has been growing steadily as has its number of monthly 'hits' - so we know many of you are logging in to take a look.  Do let him know what you think or include suggestions for possible improvements.

You may also be aware that former colleagues from QEC/KCHSS, school and work can be found at www.friendsreunited.com Why not register there as well, or at least take a look. 

Contact details

Almost everyone will know at least one friend or colleague that did not join or has lost contact with the Association. If you could pass on our details (email addresses, website) to someone that you know who might be interested in the Association's activities we could increase the number that get to hear of events and Reunions to the benefit of all.

Maintaining up-to-date contact details helps keep our costs down so please spare the time to fill-in and return the separate sheet for changes to personal details and preferences - it doesn’t take very long to reply. Many of you will use e-mail so, if you would like to receive future information via this medium, please let us know. This, of course, also avoids wasted paper but don’t forget to keep us informed of any changes.  We will use contact details you conveyed to us last year unless otherwise informed.

I do hope that you will stay in touch with the organization and hope to see you at the Reunion in October.
